Just brought home a brand new Knight Ultra Light and I am looking for some load advice. Curious to see what is working in yalls rifles. I have 3 Jugs of Black Horn and various sabots, along with 2 boxes of 250gr SST and 300gr XTP's. I also have a variety of sabots, cant remimber all the different ones. Just looking for some starting load advice to see if there is any consistance in what people have had luck with. I forgot to mention that I have plenty of CCI Mag Shotgun primers also.
Thanks

The 300gr. XTP shot very well in mine with 63 & 70 grs. weighed of BH 209 in the supplied sabot. The current load I shoot is 63 grs. weighed of BH209 with the 275 gr. BE and MMP short black sabot. I have not shot the SST in it. I use W209 primers in mine as that is what the breech plug and bolt were designed to use. I have shot the CCI M209 and Fed. 209A in mine but they are not as clean as the W209.

I'm no expert but I've owned several Knight Mountaineer rifles. They all seemed to prefer the .458" variety (.50 cal) and either MMP orange or Harvester black rib sabots. The Barnes Original .458 300gr. and the Hornady .458 325 grain with 77.0 or 80.0 (by weight) of Blackhorn 209 powder.

Them Barnes originals and blackhorn are a dandy load but 80 gr by weight in a ultra light going to be pretty ruff on shoulder. Barnes 290 tez and 70 gr by weight great load and far less recoil. Just options

Nobody has had success with the SST's? And is everyone using the W209 primer??
Thanks

Shooting blackhorn id recommend cci 209m. Or federal209a I think Barnes tez is superior bullet over sst in sabot gun especially terminal performance.

The W209 primers seem to fit Knight Breech Plugs, better than other primers. This is not just my opinion, but also of many many Knight shooters.

Ive only tested other primers in my Knights with bare 209 plugs BUT i use WIN209s when i hunt. They have been 100% reliable with BH209 and extremely clean. The results have been the same in roughly 5 Knights with the Lehigh designed bare 209 conversions. The dedicated Mountaineer bare 209 system may or may not work the same. I would assume it would be the same since Lehigh makes the Mountaineer bolts and breach plugs too.

The 300gr BO is a great bullet if you can achieve enough fps or if penetration is the main goal. Expansion is problematic though on deer sized game at typical ML speeds. Max loads at short ranges would be best if you want to use a Barnes Original. The 325gr FTX would be a better choice IMO if you want a semi tough 458. Expansion on deer sized game is far more reliable at common BH209 speeds and penetration is excellent.
