Still pretty new to this smokeless thing.. shot my Slufoot converted Encore/Bergera Barrell for the first time over the weekend. My Primers go in really tight and you can't back them out with fingers even before firing the Gun..I have to pry them out with a knife or needle nose.. is this normal? I am shooting CCI Magnum primers.. should I be shooting some other brand .. winchester maybe? I thought they were all the same dimension wise.. would it hurt to lightly sand the primer holder in the breach plug to get a better fit that would allow them to come out by hand? Or any other suggestions?
Thanks guys..

I shoot Winchesters in all 4 of my Encore conversions. I also have a 7 penny nail I cut the head and glued some emery cloth to which I put in a drill to polish up the primer pocket when primers start to stick. If the primers go in that tight, you may want to polish it up a bit. Worked for my guns. Jr

Sounds normal to me. As long as the primer is seating without over-crushing, I would do like suggested and use a tool to remove them. SMI sends one out with their conversions. I use a short wide regular screwdriver with another conversion. The primer swells to seal at ignition, too loose and you risk blow back.
Also 209s are not standardized for size. You can try other primers if you have them but look for signs of blow back if too loose.

I've got a deprimer that came with an old Remington .45 cal ML that had a bolt.. but I thought those were only for bolt guns where you couldn't get your fingers too.. I wouldn't think I would need that on a break open gun .. never had any issue with my .50 cal Encore breach.. I think I will try the emery cloth thing .. thanks.

Try the Winchesters as they have the smallest diameter at the end and are the most round of the brands.

They are tight on my SLufoot H&R conversion also.. I use the CVA depriming tool.. I just ordered one off Amazon for $8.30 shipped. Works perfect. I would rather have the primers a little tight than loose. Rob

Thanks guys.. I will try to find my old de-priming tool.. sounds like I should leave it a tight fit.. Tie it to a rope or shoelace and wear it around your neck when you go hunting. You will know exactly where it is and won't be fumbling around in your pockets looking for it. You run the risk of getting blowback as mentioned if you polish the pocket and make it too loose.

I shoot 70gr H4198 with a 310APB out of both my Pacnors and have less blowby than my brothers RemPac. Every now and again I have to pry a spent primer out which I just use my bullet starter. Mine fit tight but not enough I cant remove an unfired primer by hand. I do have EZ Tip extractors on my guns that help with removal. If you do polish it, use baby steps. Do not remove any material. This works for me anyway.

Hello WVboy, As other have already suggested, a 209 depriming tool is the way to go. I sent you a PM.
GOOD SHOOTING! Slufoot

All above good info. I'd try a combination by polishing a bit and using a tool. That is what works for me on tight plugs. Those primer pockets are even rougher than the bore of a MLII. 10
