I finally got a chance to shoot the 416 rem-pac today, after 3 months. Since I am not a big recoil fan, I was a little intimidated with it. I don't use a sled of any kind, just sand bags. I will admit I had a good hold of it before hitting the trigger. I started out on the light side with a 12/75 of 4198/4350 under a 350 gr nosler bullet. Fisrt two shots at 50 yards to sight in scope about 1" apart, 1" low and +1" left. Adjusted scope and went to 100. Next 2 shots about 1"c/c but still left 1". Adjusted again 4 clicks and shot 2 shots farily quickly and they were just barely touching at 1:00 1-1/2" high. After 20-30 minutes fooling around with my buddies 17 cal I shot the last bullet I had sized and it went 1-1/8 " out of the group at 2:00. I have some 95 gr. 4350 loads and some 12-85 duplexes ready for the next trip. I do not think I am man enough to shoot some of Earnhardt's loads. I would like to trade some of these 350 gr 416's for a lighter version. I think I would like a 300 gr bullet a lot better.

Glad you finally got to pull the trigger on it, sounds like its gonna be a shooter as well as a thumper. Congrats

Looks like she will be a shooter!
I can relate on the thumper recoil. 310 bullets at 2550fps is my limit, which is plenty for any of the usual shooting around here.
Working on a system before shooting a .451 which will be shooting mainly 275MH's, but they probably won't get pushed any faster than 2700fps.

Hunter...
Bring that beast with you when you come down for the shoot in August and maybe we can put a brake on it before you head back home... Lets tame that beast down some.......

Jeff, I am looking forward to coming down, I think it will be a great time. I ain't much of a bench shooter but I really enjoy shooting and seeing other peoples rigs. I am sure I will learn a few things from you and the group you have coming. It will be like being back in school. I will have to bring the 416 along. You just can't leave a new toy at home. Hopefully I can get it out a couple more times and get it tuned in. It has a brake on it now. I don't think I would shoot it much without one.

Hunter..
It will be a great time. I think there is a great bunch of guys coming, lots of different guns and view points will be there.
If you don't get to shoot the 416 any more before you come down, no worries. We can fine tune it when you get here...
