I finally got some trigger time on the H&R that Slufoot converted for me.. I LIKE it!! I wasn't wanting a long range rifle .. just a nice gun that I can hunt with during ML season and not have to CLEAN!!! Plus not having to deal with the smoke (lost a nice 8 pt last year due to not being able to see bullet impact due to smoke) I found a decent H&R 45/70 in my local pawn shop for $150.. that kick started my conversion off. I am going to shoot either 200 gr XTP's, sst's or Barnes 195s with blue harvester sabots. I loaded it with 58 grs of H4198 and 200 gr XTP's.. got bullet holes touching at 25yds.. then moved it out to 100 and thanks to the Arkansas Game and Fish not maintaining the range.. I could barely see the 2" target dot on the cardboard box due to the tall grass. I am going to shoot it again when I can get to my range at my farm. I am fairly certain that this rifle is going to shoot and give me what I am wanting. Thanks to Slufoot for being patient and answering all my questions. I am fairly certain that a lot of the guys that I hunt with will be sending barrels to Slu once they see this!! I got a kick out of the guy shooting next to me.. he finally asked what the heck I was shooting!!! He couldn't believe it was ML!!

In another thread you asked about sabotless. I have an H&R Ultrahunter 45-70 conversion that likes 250SST without resizing. 10/55. IMR4759/H4198 with a wool wad

My Ultrahunter is tight at the breech. They load easily until a couple of inches from the charge. Then it takes about 50 pounds to seat them. It depends on your barrel.

This time of year I get better accuracy with 56gr's of H4198. When It cools off for deer season I use 58gr's of H4198. Were only talking 3/4's to 1 inch difference though.
