Was out yesterday (SW Ohio) for several hours shooting diff loads through the ML10-II, also took along the T/C Endeavor to kill time btw cool downs (Blackhorn 209 is the way to go by the way for good clean ignition, throw that Hodgdon stuff away) and I'm still amazed how the bullet is effected by shooting a quick followup shot thou the Savage. We got def tumbling on the 2nd, and or 3rd for sure. If we waited 5-7 min plus we had good consistent hole patterns and accuracy. Were using 41 gns SR 4759, and the after several diff bullets it seems to agree with the 290 gn Barnes TMZ BT. Just baffling as to why this happens so quickly though! What is the odds of a good follow up shot in the field "if need be"

Try some .458 diameter bullets in a Harvester Black crush rib sabot. Hornady 325ftx, Hornady 300gr hollow point, Hornady 250gr GMX, Remington 300gr hollow point, Barnes Original 300gr. All work great even in heat. Still have to be aware of warm barrel, but it will help immensely. As Edge stated, cooler hunting conditions will not be a problem. Also a slower burning powder like H4198 kills the fast pressure spike and helps with blown sabots. Good luck.

Deadeer is dead on! From my experience, I can't add anything to his short, wise reply.

Jay I ran through a batch of Hornady 300 SST's and some 240 gn boatails by Precision Bullet and had issues as well. I was shooting fairly fast 2nd and 3rd shots though. It went away when I gave a 5-7 min cool time. I'll see about picking some of your mentioned goods up and burn some powder again. I have 4 lbs of the SR so I was really hoping that would dial in nicely. Thanks deadeer and others. Also, anyone think sabot residue can effect any of these problems? If so a good product to break it down and remove it.

A brass brush to clean out the plastic is all I ever used. The 300sst are 452, and anything in a boat tail is a bad prospect. Although the Barnes tmz with their yellow sabot has worked for most, me included, but never as good as the 458 bullets. Ask away.

It is purely a barrel heat issue. The sabot fails, the bullet doesn't spin. PR bullets are too soft for normal smokeless loads.
