Although it was 74°, the winds were fairly calm. Time to try out the new Timney 512 at 400yds........

Does it feel better than the X-Mark Pro? Or was it stock geometry as others suggested?

Does it feel better than the X-Mark Pro? Or was it stock geometry as others suggested? It was the trigger all the way around. That X-Mark Pro might be a good trigger for some, it just doesn't suit me. I researched, then talked with a number of people, including gunsmiths. All said its a great hunting trigger, but not for adjusting lower than 3# and remaining consistent. One of the larger independent sporting shops here in MI, has some very good smiths. One told me that he could take ten different Remington rifles with that trigger, adjust each one to 2.5# and they'd all start varying a pound or more. It was that varying that I felt and it drove me bonkers.
The feel is like day and night and I really like the larger shoe. It broke perfect and it always surprised me. It actually felt so good that I may increase the trigger pull a 1/4 or 1/2 pound. As for the stock, I'm getting used to that, having never had a thumbhole, I'm liking it. But the trigger...... its a day vs night difference. I'm pretty happy with the change. I will work with both the trigger and stock more, but will do that on my 100yd range, where I can find something to do between shots. I'll drop the charge down to about 75grs (W) and shoot up a bunch of Barnes 250gr TMZ's that I have pile of. Because they're the BT, the sabots won't hold up with the heavier charge, so I'll pick up some of the 290gr FB Barnes (T-EZ) and try them. I was told by Randy Johnston that they shot very well from the Ultimates with the Harvester H5045LB sabot, and Barnes is my preferred hunting bullet. Towards fall when shooting at the club will be easier and cooler, I'll probably purchase some MH's and try punching paper with them.
All in all, I'm pretty darn happy. After the year I had last year, that included five (5) surgeries and four (4) of them on my eyes, I'm BLESSED to be shooting at all.

Good deal. I have always been a Timney fan and I like the wider shoe as well. The X-Mark Pro I mentioned shooting recently was missing a spring; I found the issue after going over the trigger. It broke at 4lbs on the nose but felt heavy and inconsistent to me.

Not sure about all the different triggers out there and I'm no benchrest shooter but the Timney I put in my current sml project seems very nice, to me at least. Super light and super crisp. I'm happy with it and can't wait to get it back and try it out. Glad you solved your issue and are happy with it.
