Although my current trigger is giving me fits and I should probably see a doctor over it. I have an order in for a 512 Timney to try, but that hasn't showed up yet.
This time....... I took a full can of mosquito spray and the Thermacell.

I'd say you have it all together. Hope your new trigger is worth the investment. Can't imagine you could do too much better! What is your speed and drop from wherever your zero'd? 100 or 200 yd? Good job.

Good job. Jay The reported velocity is approximately 2,350, which is what the custom turret is matched for. It appears that I've worked BH to match. I zero for 200yds, which puts it approximately 3.5" high at 100yds. With a 200yd zero, there's approximately 46" of drop at 400yds. I'm having fun.......

Didnt that ultimate come with a custom polished tuned trigger? or a timney/gisselle, etc from factory? I would be a bit upset at having to upgrade a new custom

I would be a bit upset at having to upgrade a new custom Ken takes the standard trigger and tunes it. However being as particular as I am, I'm not happy with it. I would assume that I may be in a very low percentile of shooters who want or require something better. Squeeze, you know what its like not being confident with one thing or another, and just like the rest of us, we have to do what we feel is necessary for that confidence. In my case, I feel a different trigger will provide. After that, I'll have ran out of excuses

Like your shooting! Can you advise this button buck as to what kind of rest you are using or if this is off the bench? I would like to try and match your accomplishment even through my rifle is far from custom.

I use a Caldwell Lead Sled, the FCX rest off a bench, at the only long range club within 200 miles. Thank Goodness its only 30 miles from home. I don't load it full of weight (lead shot).

Thanks, encore50a - I have a lead sled and I just finished building a bench to haul out to the field. I will see what kind of groupings I will get from the bench and then try it with my shooting sticks. I think I will try it on a day without the 13 mile an hour wind to start. I will be shooting an encore Pro Hunter on which I have done a lot of work with the assistance of Mike Bellum. Again Thanks!

I will be shooting an encore Pro Hunter on which I have done a lot of work with the assistance of Mike Bellum. Again Thanks! I've purchased from Mike and Kurt for many years and have actually asked a couple of "firsts" questions, that took some work in their part to answer. One of my questions took a math professor to answer If it wasn't for the necessary insurance, I'd be doing Encore platform work. They offered, I declined. GREAT people!
If you have that Pro Hunter tuned right up, it'll shoot excellent. I know, I've have one and have helped set up a number of them. I've owned Encore platform rifles since they became available. I've basically been able on my good days, to shoot a single enlarged hole with it all day long at 100yds. If I only hadn't lost photos and videos when the desktop computer died.... My best group with it at 200, was 1 3/4". Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x50, Barnes 250grs TMZ, 75grs weight BH, CCI209M primers, bullet seating force 106# (avg). For production rifles, IMO its hard to beat the Encore platform. Maybe that's why every other manufacturer has tried to copy them (short of Knight).
I was helping a guy one day with his Pro Hunter and he asked me about fouling. I gave him my take on it, then shot it. I have a few photos that weren't lost, but what pains me are loosing the videos. So to show him how my specific Pro Hunter shot clean vs fouled, I shot this target for him.
Good luck with the shoot'n! Please post your results......

I agree Mike and Kurt are the best! I have done all the routine upgrades: new hinge pin, new stronger springs and polished and honed the sear. My trigger is crisp and pulls right at 2.5 lbs. I am currently shooting a TC Shock wave 40 cal 200 gr. Accuracy has been very good and I can match your above target with two shots but always seem to have a small widening on the third shot. Reason I built a bench to take to the field as I have been shooting off the tail gate of my truck.
Love the Encore platform: it is a fine shooting muzzle rifle - I have not shot center fire with it as I have plenty of other rifles to fill that nich.
I do have another question: I notice that you are loading by weight? Is this preferred to volume? I am primarily a hunter that likes to shoot a lot but was wondering if weight is preferable to volume. Volume has always seem a little imperfect to me. Thanks for the feed back and sharing your experience.

Thanks for the feed back and sharing your experience. Weight vs volume: I try to eliminate variables that can be controlled. If you have a scale, load your volume measure then weigh the charge. Do that a half dozen times, weighing each charge and write them down. Then load 3 or 4 more and lightly tap the volume measure while filling it and write them down also. Compare... Its an inconsistency that can be controlled by weighing charges. I assume that most "seasonal shooters" just use a volume measure and that's acceptable for them and nothing wrong with it. On the other hand, I believe shooters that shoot more often and want the most from the rifle, weigh their charges. I've witnessed rifles with a 3gr difference, go from a 2" group to a 1" group. I guess it all depends on how specific a shooter really wants to be.
Just remember to use the conversion number provided by Western if you intend to load by weight. .7 is their published number and you can find it at the BH web site. Their site states that 84grs by weight is a maximum charge.

Thanks encore50a! I will try some groupings by weight after I get the conversion chart.

:)To mtms2hunt: That is a pretty good sized kitty cat you are hugging in the photo. Nice animal. I agree that weighing charges will give the most consistency, hence better accuracy.

Going to try weighing my charges shortly if it ever stops raining. I think this may also tighten up the SD between shots I am getting on my chrono as well as the groupings.

I know its off the subject....... At one time I thought I was going on a elk hunt somewhere near Lander. Goodness, that was back in the 80's now. A friend of my dad's, brother had a huge ranch out there. Supposed to go as far up as a truck would take you, then on to horses. Only cost would have been 1/2 the trip out there and back. Ranch had its own guides. Just happened that the year we were to go, they shut down non-resident licenses in the area. Stated to many bulls being taken from the area.
Good luck with the shooting. Please report on it.

Using the USPS tracking number system and a Timney 512 should be showing up tomorrow (Monday) . Can't wait to replace this X-Mark Pro! I have "0" confidence in it, which I know affects my shooting. Its funny how something can play on a person's mind so much, but it does. It didn't matter so much when setting up the rifle but, once setup and trying to obtain constant groups, that's when things "went to pot" and I started to really notice the inconsistency in trigger pull. It pulled properly with one or two rounds, then the next couple rounds would feel a pound or more heavier. A HUGE mental distraction. I researched and talked to a number of gunsmiths about the trigger. One smith told me that he could take a dozen rifles, set the X on each of them at 2.5# and that they'd all vary at times, up to 1.5#. He stated that the X is a great hunting trigger but, consistency for pull weights under 3# is about non-existent.
I debated between a Jewell and the Timney, even the Calvin Elite, but with a preferred pull of slightly over 2#, I decided on the 512. I'll set it at 2 1/4# and can't wait to give it a work out. Hope it improves my groups and if not, I'll have ran out of excuses..........
