This morning was a continuation of the search for a barren ground whitetail load. Conditions were virtually perfect. Initially there was zero breeze, temperature was 52, and it wasn't too muddy. Developing this load had been some frustrating, because of fliers, but i kept adding powder until yesterday. Then this morning, i switched from CCI 250 primers to the Federal 215 primer. The Federal primer seems to burn some cleaner, and may have eliminated fliers. Three shots measure 1 5/8"; 5 shots measure 3". The X7 has a 1.5X - 5X scope mounted on it right now, and it sure makes for a sweet, accurate, compact, light hunting outfit. Too bad regulations will require a change to a 1X scope for the muzzle loader season. The breech plug was modified to use the PR primer adapters, and the flash hole was enlarged to 0.032". After 315 shots through, the flash hole accepts a 0.032" gage, but won't allow a 0.033" gage. Using this load, in this rifle, is too much for shotgun primers; blow back goes right through the primer. However, the PR adapter, and the rifle primer, seal perfectly.

Nice shooting. Nothing to change really. You have plenty experience but don't have all the shooting particulars in this post. I am guessing this is saboted shooting in a 50?? I lightly knurl all the bullets I sabot shoot even if they have a good fit. Is there any swabbing or cleaning between shots?? your gun may like a clean barrel for that 1st shot accuracy and downhill after that. Also how about the typical, go to the 458 bullets in BCR or orange sabot, that speer 300 gr 458 flat nose is my favorite 45X50 bullet especially in my "smokers" and it gives outstanding performance in my MLIIs also. And don't forget that heat is the enemy of sabots and I don't know if your had wait time or a cool rod, a load that will blow 209s is certainly enough to generate sabot weakening heat. AND 1.5 moa at 200 out of a smoker, that is really pretty darn good if you can keep repeating it, then don't change anything! these are just my quick thoughts but you really seem to have a good shooter there. And I'm working on some new stuff for this fall too but have the good proven equipment/standards to use if new stuff isn't working out. Best, 10 ga

LOL, my 1 shot groups are great! It's the next 2 or 3 that that don't go where intended for me too.
Humor is a good medicine. 10

The rifle is a 50, and the sabot was the green crush rib. There is/was no swabbing or cleaning between shots. No knurling was done. The barrel of this rifle is tooo tight to use a 458 bullet in a crush rib sabot. Haven't tried orange sabot in this rifle with 458 bullet, but in other rifles the only time 458 bullet worked good for me is if it was put into a black crush rib sabot. No cool rod, but did wait a short time between shot 3 & 4, and between shot 4 & 5; until the barrel wasn't hot, just warm.
This morning, the one shot group was excellent; nearly dead center. Almost quit, and try again tomorrow, but went for two shots, and the group right away became 2 1/2" low and right. The third shot was high and left, and made the group 6"; then i did quit.
