Im curious why wait so long to get a custom barrel for encore builds. When you can but a cva apex45/70 install breech plug and shoot moa groups . And imo trigger is better and hinge is better and thicker barrel and stock configuration is like a rifle instead of pistol.

Very good question. Then why not put a PR plug in it for 59.95. Although I'm not familiar with Apex or whether they can take an Encore sized plug.

Bergera also makes .45-70 barrels for Encores, so it needn't be the custom route to put one on an Encore.
As for the stock, to each his own. Some of us happen to like the way an Encore stock fits us.

It is nice to be a member of a close-knit group of SML shooters who were motivated enough to get into smokeless, but having to pay double should.not be a requirement. I have not shot a "Slufoot" conversion myself, but from the groups I've seen, it does not seem to shoot any different than a Bullberry or other build. My Bullberry cost about $800. I didn't understand the Slufoot option.

Exactly put any style plug you want. Because you have to machine chamber for breech design anyway. Assuming the barrel has a contour with enough meat in it! Personally I would not use a stock Savage plug in a new build ... UNLESS the barrel came pre-chambered for it. The long unthreaded section is a vestige of the Original fully threaded BP designed by the Ball father and son team and was greatly overbuilt. For some manufacturing reason Savage kept the OAL when the redesigned the partially threaded plug in the ML-II. The important parts are the length of thread engagement and the short snout. Other than that any extra length reduces usable barrel length, and pushes the area of greatest pressure down the bore unnecessarily...IMO edge. edge.
