I have a 416 rempac on it way. Anyone have any good loads using IMR4350 with 350 gr bullets. I would like to start on the lite side and work up. I was thinking somewhere in the 85-88 gr up to maybe 95 gr. Can I get in trouble starting with this low charge of 4350? I would like to be in the 23-2500 fps range. Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

My .416 shoots a 340gr. bullet 95gr.of H-4350 at 2750fps. I think your 85-88gr. would be a great place to start. Sometimes a faster load or booster may increase accuracy by giving better obturation.

Fish hawk. I'm shooting the same load and getting 2760 fps from a Swing Lock, so you are getting good efficiency cause my Rempac .416 can't do that at all with its current Savage plug ignition system. That is why I'm experimenting with other systems and bushings. What system are you using?

What booster is best in the 416? I have h-4198, 4759, n-110, rel-7 and h322 on hand

What are you referring to as efficiency? Velocity, ES, accuracy?

I've always stuck with H4198 as a booster in my .416's. I've tried some faster boosters, but went back to H4198. With total powder loads of 100 grains or less, I use 10 grains of H4198 as a booster With total powder loads above 100 grains I use 12-14 grains of H4198.
What is the twist of your barrel?

Hunter: The best thing you can do is be patient. The Rempac .416 is a new breed and many of us are just getting some testing done. Earnhardt is doing some great testing--even with rifle primer ignition. You can join in on the testing. Even if we can't get a 209 primer system working, there is likely a way to use rifle primers. Fishhawk/ are you getting good ignition with just 209 primers with .031 hole? Mine won't work well with that. Now, keep in mind I also have a swing lock that works well but uses a much larger flame hole.

I've tried 95 grains of H4350 with .416 325 MH's, and had great luck. But that was with 28 & 30" barrels with 1 in 12" twist barrels. With a booster of H4198 you can size the bullets looser and still get good ES's. I'm just starting to use H4350 with .416 350 MH's and I'm having mixed results. If you're going to use solid coppers, make sure you anneal them. That really helps out.

It looks like I will be trying out a lot of things with the 416. Do you use wads under the bullets?

I have. But I normally don't use wads.
