I should soon be receiving a .45 Caliber Knight Disk Extreme stainless steel fluted barrel, laminated wood stocked version that I bought from a member of this board. It comes with the "Disk eliminating conversion" already done. Although I have a rather large amount of experience with my Encore and my 10ML-II having fired between the them close to 4000 shots, I have absolutely ZERO experience with Knight ML's. I plan on using only BH209 and either 40/200 XTPs or 195/Barnes, and possibly 40/200 SST's, but no SST's until I shake out the other two first. So will what I have learned from shooting my Encore W/BH209 serve me as well in load development with my Extreme, or not?
What I learned from load development with my 10ML-II helped me maximize my Encore's potential, so I'm hoping same will be true with my Extreme. With the cost of powder and availability and cost of certain .40 cal bullets, I would like to keep my load development as brief as possible. So should I approach load development for my Extreme differently than the fallowing?:
Based on what worked best in both my Encore and 10ML-II, I plan on finding the tightest possible sabot bullet combination(s) available to me. Of the two Harvester or MMP does one of the two sabots clearly perform better than the other in 45 cal elites used with the above listed bullets, or as I suspect will I have to let my rifle tell me that. I also plan on progressing load development as I do with my other ML's in I will get some blue Harvesters, some Tan MMPs, try both with bullets on a empty barrel W/BP removed to see which gives the tightest fit and start with that bullet/sabot combo. I will however keep both on hand in case my 1st choice is not working out. I plan on using Federal 209s, but will have CCI 209m's on hand as well, and begin with (by volume) 100 grain charges of BH209 and go no higher than 120 grains if I first don't experience any indicators of high pressure.
So that's my game plan to start.
Now if anyone reading this has any advice they feel will help me such as a "DO" and DON"T DO" list for my model Knight Extreme ML or any good advice in general concerning my model Knight Extreme or Extremes in general I would greatly appreciate you sharing it with me. Especially advice concerning sabots, primers, bullets, or anything else anyone can think of, please share it with me.
Thanks,
Arthur.
