At the top of the screen between profile and recent threads. Click on messages and once that page opens click create new. Then you have to type in the members name you are trying to contact.

thanks to both of you.
not sure why, but yesterday when i went to the profile of the person i wanted to message, the "send message" button wasn't there. today it is. maybe i had to post first? i was logged in, and have been registered for a while?
no matter, i could have just overlooked it also. thanks again.
