We'll have to call that the "Zen proof load". Count your blessings on that one bud. At least now you know how a .460 Weatherby feels. Still I'm glad your OK and the rifle being OK is a plus.

Glad to hear both you and your equipment came away unscathed from this incident. A lot can be learned about equipment from such an incident but the most important one is the vulnerability for shooter error if constant vigilance is not observed when loading. I also have been guilty of this one in the past and that was one hard lesson that I also learned.

I would bet that it probably did not burn all that powder before the bullet was out the end of the barrel.

Thank God there wasn't a third funeral at your church within a week!
Glad you're OK. The rifle could have been replaced, even if it had failed. You, sir, cannot.

I've shot some wicked loads that were safe and beat me up. This one takes the cake for sure.
Sounds like the lead sled saved you from Tommy John surgery or gouging your eye out.
Glad you survived and that the gun was capable of taking the punishment. As bad as what happened here is, there is valuable information gained in this circle of pioneering.
I'll bet this will never happen to you again. And I hope know one else.
The art of reloading is usually safe. It is very hard to double load a cartridge with an appropriate powder. Yes, anyone can triple load a cartridge with shot gun powder but that would be 100% dumb A$$. But a ML is different....very easy to mess up if you aren't focused and using witness marks. you can dump as much as you want down a barrel.
Be careful you guys!
