No that is not a typo... Been a busy week at the church this week.. A couple funerals on top of my regular duties and I was ready to do a little shooting... I went to the range early so that I would be alone.. Don't like distractions.... Got everything set up and was planning on shooting some straight loads of H4198 and a duplex combo of Unique and H322... Anyhow, while I was loading my Rem-Pac 25" Sendero contour a member of the club drove in and I took a minute to walk over and say hi.... Walked back over to the bench dumped 70 gns 4198 in the tube...wool wad and a loose fitting 275gn BE, marked my ramrod.... The rest is history... took my first shot and experienced the hottest load that I have ever shot.... Kicked like a mule and registered 3725fps on the chrono!!!!... My first words were what the h***!!!... I had dumped 70gns of 4198 down the barrel before I went over to say hi and you all know the rest.. It was a double load of 4198..140gns total behind a 275 BE... The first cardinal rule is don't let anything distract you while loading and I had broken it... The second rule is put a witness mark on your ramrod.. I messed that one up also..I put it on after it was double loaded.. Fortunately nothing really happened other than my lead sled practically jumping out off the table and my pride being hurt.... My Rem-Pac was tuff enough today and took the punishment with no damage... I took it apart put a scope in it and was glad to see that no damage was done.. It did have a bulged primer that took some pliers to remove it.... I'm thankful in many ways ..no injury or damage... I put it back together and continued to shoot 25 more rounds... Barrel still has a consistent fit all the way down and still shoots MOA at 200yds... Thank you Lord.... Just a friendly reminder to pay attention Zen

Dang im glad nothing happened, started to double load 1 of mine 1 day & realized after a 12" push what I had done, its easy to get side tracked & a witness mark can save the day if you remember to ck before you load

I ran the numbers once it's about 110,000psi according to quickload!

Glad your OK Zen. That's why I want heavier contour barrels on my guns.

I try to drop about 10% off of max loads and then work up for best accuracy edge.

That's nearly 8500 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle. That's impressive!
That's the equivalent energy of three one-and-one-eighth ounce slugs moving at 1600fps, or put another way, that'd be like a 150 grain .30 caliber bullet zipping along at about 5050 fps!

OP says sendero. So not as heavy as some.

Appears the Sendero handled the task. Might have been different if it was an actual double load not just double charge. Did it hit paper?

Missed that, I was in shock from reading. Come to think of it, I heard/felt something earlier and thought to myself what the heck was that? Now I know

.... Yeah it was off the paper .... In fact I had to re-adjust the scope... up and to the left a couple inches... My Vortex Viper side focus hung in there just skipped a couple beats... Just cleaned the barrel good and ran the bore scope through it again....All a OK... Little luck and a tough barrel... I've always wondered when we would be pushing the limit with these unlugged bolts safety wise... This has to be over the limit... Crazy thing I was looking for a nice easy kicking accurate load and this wasn't it. Zen

Crazy thing I was looking for a nice easy kicking accurate load and this wasn't it. Zen Technically you can't write of the accuracy potential until you shoot another one

110000psi/140gr=786psi/gr 26.6fps/gr 29.5psi/fps = Probably minimal temp sensitivity? IMO, not worth tracing to find out?

If I wanted to duplex this load, what booster should I use? H50?

Holy sh... Glad you and your rifle are ok. That definitely shows how tough even a Sendero profile barrel is and a great reminder about avoiding distractions when shooting. Thanks for sharing.

Pacnor barrel saved you ...bottom line....that's what Dave D. and others involved in the design had in mind....I'm glad ALL of my smokeless guns have custom "human proof" barrels installed....Glad everything including you came out unscathed from such a heavy load....I wear a shirt that says "Don't talk to me,".."SML IN PROGRESS""......

Great test, even though unintentional. What did we learn? I always wondered if a double load of powder would bulge the barrel. Now we know it won't if you use 4198 or slower powder. We know a 209 primer can survive, although I doubt it withstood twice the pressure. There are some limitations on how much pressure can get through the plug. We know the Savage plug holds up.

Glad you and the gun survived Zen. BTW, how is the recessed plug doing? Richard The recessed plug with the modified vent held up like a champ... The first thing I did was pull it and check it out.... The vent measured .035 when I started and it was the first shot... Like I said earlier I put quite a few more down range afterward and everything worked great.... The last time I shot it was zeroed at 200yds shooting 73 gns of H4198 and after the boomer it was hitting 2" low and 2" to the right... Don't really know if the scope got knocked off or the poa was that much different between the two loads. No matter it still held zero afterwards.... I really like that Vortex Viper Zen
