My daughter has a new Remington Model 700 in .243 that she got recently. The trigger is not the externally adjustible Mark X-Pro trigger. This trigger IMO is terrible. It varies from about 5.5 pounds to something over 6 pounds. She would use this more for varmints than big game so she would like a better trigger. The price of the new rifle was under $400 which included the scope and bases and rings from Remington. I will upgrade the scope and mounts with others I have if it shoots at all. It is pencil barreled. It is potentially subject to an additional $50 mail in rebate but I question that. Short of an after market trigger swap and the expense thereof is this trigger readily safely adjustible to about 2.5 pounds (or less)? If worse comes to worst can I swap out my Jewel trigger I have on my now unused TarHunt shotgun based on the Remington 700 action. Thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

I have a factory trigger on a 700 that safely went down to 2.5# but I would not count on being able to do that every time. When working on them for friends I won't go below 3-3.5# most of the time because that is all I can get out of them and feel good about it. Nothing wrong with Jewel triggers but I like Timney on a hunting gun.

The older Remington triggers were the very best as far as getting them set down low imo. I have a couple that will get to around 2.5#s no problem and had an old 722 that was the best of all. The newer Remington stuff isn't what it once was. IF the gun will shoot around $125 will get a Timney w/safety that will make you smile.

If it were me I would make use of the Jewell trigger that's just sitting in that Tarhunt shotgun you have... It should be a direct drop in....

Can a new Mark X Pro trigger be fitted to the action ? It should . Get in touch with Remington and maybe if you send them the gun they will replace the trigger with a new Mark X Pro trigger .

I purchased a new take off Mark-X adjustible for $35 off the net. It will perhaps not be as good as some of the other triggers but I hope it is adequate for what I want. If not I am not out much.

Jims, I just bought a stainless sps for a ml donor and the x mark pro doesn't feel too bad after a couple dry fires. Don't know how old and experienced your daughter is but for a youth hunter I think it felt pretty good out of the box. A little sear engagement adjustment and I think you'll be happy with it for the little extra you got the x mark for.

I purchased a 700ADL ready to go from a local Walmart in .223. Those triggers have a somewhat rough sear engagement That would explain the varied pull weights you are experiencing. A drop of Clenzoil at that point should loosen it some. If that doesn't work, I use a Dremel with a felt bob and rouge polish an touch up the sear engagement surfaces. I also add one of those spring kits from "Ernie's Springs" that's on Ebay. They run around $10. Good luck. One thing about Rermington rifles---I never was unable to recoup my investment if it shoots bad. Unless you have to shoot store bought ammo, that won't be a problem.

If you go to the Savage/Muzzleloading section on this site one of our posters just listed information under Remington Recall. The 700s built in the last 8 years have a recall on the triggers. Good information to know. Big expense for Big Green but they have liabilty concerns I suspect.

I would put a new trigger in, Timney or the one from your other gun.

I put the adjustable Rem trigger on but had my local gunsmith work it over. It is just under two pounds so I am good to go. He also adjusted an older version Rem trigger I have so I have a good spare or need another 700 to put it on. The first trigger is just a parts trigger now as parts were removed off of it.
