For those of you who have had a HD5 5x25 scope failure what did Ziess do to handle the situation? if they repaired or replaced the scope, did the next one hold up on the same guns and loads? How many second time failures? Please keep the replies to me in personal messages. I dont want this to turn int any kind of a bashing session. Or a my dogs bigger than your dog contest thanks in advance drop

I thought they were covered by a no questions asked warranty for the first 5 years? Please pm me if you should find out anything other Ziess owners should be aware of. Thanks in advance and best of luck!

I really think a hd5 3-15 would be perfect and am looking at one for my smokeless. If there is indeed problems with these with the big booming .45's I'd like to know also.

This is a post from 247deer in hunting gear from a while back. Not sure if it helps. "I put a 5-25x50 HD on a smokeless muzzle loader lasted less than 60 rounds before it would not hole zero just sent it back beginning of November called Monday and was told it would be at least 12 weeks to get it back from Germany that is too long will not buy another one for that reason" Read more: dougsmessageboards.proboards.com/thread/14439/zeiss-hd-5-scopes#ixzz2wgYVjccG

My replacement scope is scheduled for delivery Monday. Just wondering how many if any second generation failures there have been? Yeah a little apprehensive . But still have total faith in the company. Sometimes a product makes it through the testing process. And then makes it to the market place unscathed. But I doubt anything could prepare them for the BRUTAL recoil these guns generate.... Yes ... That's right fellas....We ain't the normal hunter....shooter.... LOL. Just checking ALL the information available. Thanks All Drop

My 13 year old Leupold [VX-111 3.5-10x40mm\ has had a number of big boomers shot Thur it big boomers 35 to 42 lbs of recoil, 375 H&H in the 30 to 35 range depending on weight of rifle and it like a Timex watch it keeps on ticking. I'm sure it will break me before I break it. I can't say for sure but a good guess would be 1000 shots fired with Big Boomers, all rounds from book loads on up a bunch. and its still a great shooter with the original Savage barrel 300 & 350 Barnes X bullets 71 t0 78grs of benchmark 400gr Barnes Buster bullet 72 to 74 grs. hold on tight with the Buster bullet.

Yes I know the Leupold VXIII 3.5 x 10 x 40 is a very good scope. (I have 2 of them). But I am more interested in gaining the information requested about the Ziess HD 5x25 Thanks for looking and posting though Drop

Mine has been on three different guns Russell with probably 100 rounds or so fired and its still going, if they can make them stand up to the punishment they will be an awesome scope for the money..

I haven't had this specific scope as of yet but I feel your pain with blowing the wide variables apart. I have destroyed numerous scopes on the big 50. Most that give out are variable power with a 4 to 5 factor. I've had decent luck with 4-12 or 6-18 but something about the wider spread doesn't much care for the whipping action of big boomers. That being said Zeiss makes incredible optics and I think your next one will withstand much more than your first "bad apple". Good shooting and good luck.
I might have read it somewhere before but are your rings lapped?

Guess it will fit nicely in my .308 then. I'm not a Leupy fan anylonger. I think they are overpriced for what u get. Never looked thru one that was as clear as my Trijicon or Zeiss. Maybe just my eyes?
