What route are you going to take? Lots of good options. Im gonna build on a Rem 700 CF action. Ive got a Breech Plug from PA machine. Hoping to use .308 casings or .45 acp. Now waiting on my barrel from Krieger. Taking forever l

Welcome to the SML world. Great people with tons of great advice here. Sounds like you have a good plan in motion. What bore, twist, contour, length are ya going with? Im going try a 45-70 barrel from Krieger with .458 groove. 1-20 twist. Im starting out with 30 inch barrel. Probably excessive but try it first.

That should be nice. Plenty of barrel to get some cut off and recrown and have a ff die made, if you should ever decide to go that route. Possibilities are endless...

welcome tbye3300. I have a brother that hated hot weather, read mid atlantic coast, he has a place near North Platte on one of the hydro/irrigation lakes. Been there a couple times, neat country. wow, here turkey flocks are 5 to 50 birds, there 100 to 250. Building your own SML is really satisfying. I have several in all stages of completion now and really enjoy them. Yeah, you need a really good long range shooter. Those fields are amazingly big. Example, got 7 deer with my SMLs this year, longest shot was about 55 yards and closest was like 7 yards. Keep us updated on your progress and how the build and shooting and hunting goes. Seems like so slow and if starting now ya should be ready for season this fall, 2014. Again welcome. 10 ga
PS: it was a bitter 31 last night and a very bone chilling rainy wet NE wind 35 today.

PS: it was a bitter 31 last night and a very bone chilling rainy wet NE wind 35 today. Ha that's funny wish it was that warm here! As I type this on my phone I look up in the corner and it's telling me it's 8° outside! Last night was suppose to get down to -9°. Not sure if it did but it's cold no matter how you shake a stick at it! RR
