Well some times it must be GOOD to be a coyote.
One would think after a storm on a nice sunny day the calling would be great. Well it was great, the "getting them to come in " was a bit off. We started by Fairfield did some sets on the cut across to Simms . We got the attention of a Patrolman by parking in the barrow pit to hide the Toyota, he drove by three times till he saw us walking back to the truck, then left. There was two groups of coyotes trash talking with us but after a 35 minute dual we gave up, It was -10* and the tows got a titch cool. Tried a few miles down the road in an attempt to get behind the trash talkers but we only got the neighbors labberdoodle to talk to us. We shot over to the back side of Freezout and did 3 perfect sets, just no dogs. We saw two out in a field when we were on our way in and saw another one a bit after we did our last set there. We knew there where coyotes with in ear shot, just not interested. The wind was threatening to come up but still was very callable. We went through the Bole area and did some very good looking set. We know no one had been messing with them because no one had been down the roads for serial days. We had a ton of bunny tracks every place we set. Other then an occasional road dog you would think they were all at home getting ready to watch the "Supper Bole" game's. Ha ha!
We tried some areas by Aarod lakes, nothing either, a few rabbit tracks and a road dog or two but nothing !!! The wind was picking up a bit and it made sitting in to the wind very painful. One last look at a big hunk of state that was CRP but is all cut and part is turned over ?? Then home. A VERY nice day of walking and calling, but no Killing...
