I have also seen best luck with the Remington Copper Solid. Sometimes I think the twist rate on these guns is not fast enough for the higher velocity slugs like XP3's, SST's, and the Remington Core Lokt Ultra's, which are all in the 1850-2000fps range.
I was out with my H&R 20ga USH last weekend, trying what was available locally which was Winchester partition golds, and SST's. The SST's were not consistent at all, and the Winchesters were OK< but nothing I would consider shooting.
I bought a box of lightfields and copper solids, and we are going to find out who is king! My only thought with the lightfields, they dont seem build for long distances, and I could be wrong about this. But when comparing it to the copper solid, and comparing the ballsitics, it seems the copper solid is a better choice. BUT, better be sure and send in those rebates or they'll bite your wallet!

The Lightfields are not long distance rounds and never have been. I have shot a boat load of them through 2-20 ga USH and 12 ga USH and a Tar-Hunt. At 100 yards very little will compare to them. The Remington Copper solids came in second in my accuracy tests. I stopped in a small mom and pop gunshop in Southern Indiana not long after the Lightfields hit the market. They had several cases of Lightfields there. It was obvious that they were not selling like hot cakes and she said as much. I told her I would buy them all at costs. She agreed. I paid her and she said she hoped her husband would not be upset! lol I hauled arse out of there grinning all the way home! lol
VTEC you are spot on concerning the twist rate. I tried those SSTs and they were all over the place. The most horrible slug I have ever shot period!

The old Winchester/BRI sabot is a very good slug in the slower twists as well.

OK
So back out yesterday and the first 3 shots with the Lightfields @ 100 yards was OK, prob 4" spread.
Loaded 3 copper solids, they were no better!
Considering both loads were low and left (scope was dialed for 1800+ speeds), I adjusted the scope and shot the remaining 2 shots of each shell. The lightfields were prob an inch apart, and the copper solids still too far apart.
So at this point in the season, I think Ill go with the lightfields. I may try out the Accutips next time, or the dual bonds......if I feel like blowing some money that is! Till then, the lightfields have sold me for now. Lets hope they perform well in the field!

The Winchester BRI will likely outshoot even the light fields. The accutiops and and the dual bonds are made for a faster twist barrel then what you have.

Hornady have been the worst I've ever shot as well, even out of my DSIII, I won't hunt with the lightfields for the distance issue but I am definitely going to try them to see if the 870 likes them, just for reviews sake. I cleaned the barrel on the 870 and I think that is going to tighten up the groups some, omg was it dirty and fouled with plastic. Took forever to get it clean. I'm hoping to get it to the bench this weekend to try some real groups. I may even shoot the ole ithaca just to make sure its on as well. Planning on going totally SML this year in gun season, its just darned hard to leave a 3 shot tack driver sit there when you go out knowing you're only going to realistically get 1 shot with a ML. Praying to god if I kill one its 300+ yards, just to make me and the Ithaca feel better..

Gonna give the 870 super slug a try, supposed to rain a good bit the next few days so I'm gonna park the SMl and take a shotgun. Feeling a little uneasy leaving the Ithaca sitting in the cabinet and taking the 870, but I think it's up to the task, fingers crossed....

Accutips all the way. Need you to shoot a few 5 shot groups with the 3" XP3's for me to see how they group at 100, then I'll use them. Unless you are scared? ??

A "flick" doesn't scare me, gonna take some blood to do that. Your money, I will be ready the next time, you can count on that. Boy would I like to slip one in the chamber on you, like the 3 1/2" turkey load we slipped in on Thorny's brother rabbit hunting. Bet he had the same look on his face that I did the other day.
