Good question. I have a good answer. Here it is. Background: shorter arrows need more FOC than longer arrows. Arrow length given by xbow companies is the minimum length they recommend. The longer the arrow the more it planes, AND the less FOC needed. Also, there are special, heavy broadheads made especially for xbows(FOCs - 170g 3" Spitfire, Excaliber 150g broadheads, others). Which would you rather have: a heavy, tough broadhead and a light insert or a light broadhead and a heavy, inert insert? The ONLY reason for the heavy(110g) brass inserts is so conventional, 100g broadheads can be used. The broadhead with the least frontal surface is the FOC. It also has a 3" cut. Other 150g and greater broadheads are tougher than the lighter broadheads. Put your weight where you want strength: the broadhead. What do I use? Answer - 22" Lazer 3 Pros, Blazer vanes(2") - 4 degree offset, 19.7 g Al inserts, Al moon nocks, 170g FOC broadheads. This has a 190g total weight vs 210 if I had used brass insert/100g broadhead. Hope this helps.
