killahog Seasoned Member Registered: 02/19/07 Posts: 154 Loc: usa I went out with a friend today in central Ohio who owns several good beagles, We set up to standers on one side of a large woods and myself and the dog owner walked the dogs in trying to cut a track. We inadvertently jumped o yote and he ran thru the standers without getting shot. We took the beagles over and dumped them on the track and it was on from there. After running the yote for a few miles someone got a shot at it with #4B when it circled back. The yote was going north but abruptly changed directions after getting swarmed with the shot. He was hit but not to bad and ran past one of our trucks. This was a mistake because ,we had 2 other dogs in the back. We dumped them out and I ran as hard as I could after them. I was looking at the Garmin tracker and noticed all 4 dogs had him bayed up about a half mile away. I circled in and after some very careful planning I took the shot at 10 yards. It was tough to do it safely with 4 dogs swarming him. But the mangee critter ate a 3 1/2 12 Gauge load of 4b to the noggin. This sort of yote hunting is absolutely a blast. We killed a total oe three today and we are going again tomorrow.

Couple groups around here run with dogs and do quite well. My buds tribe will cut a track crossing the road and walk in to flush them, they get 40-45 a year too.

Never really thought of beagles as coyote hounds. Sure appears they are working out fine.

The snow really helps we usually start off in the morning by driving the roads and trying to cut a fresh track when we find one we walk the dogs in it's important to use at least 2 dogs. The coyotes will jump one a single dog or a pup that is not confident.

This was what we ended up with yesterday, Sunday 12/23/12. It was a better than average day. I killed one of the yotes by just being in the right place at the right time, the dogs were runing one about 3/4 miles away and I was standing in a funnel between a woods and a field. The Coyote just came loping past me hunting. All the others including the fox were run down by the beagles. I reset my my GPS on saturday and walked 13 miles that day. My leggs and I disagree are so sore im not going to hunt for a few days. Sometimes I forget im not still a 20 something in the USMC.

My beagles were on top of their game this year as we got 84 yotes here in Northcentral Ohio. Killahog(aka-Tony) hunts with us, when he can make it. The white tailed/white legged one in Tony's pic had a local reputation(formerly). The attached pic with blondie is one of my favorites. I hate to see the season end, but turkey hunting has begun, thus our time is over. Attachments:

We cranked it up another notch this year. We got 92 coyotes for the 2013-2014 season here in northcentral Ohio with my beagles. We got 4 young dogs started, with 3 of them superstarted. I have finally reached my goal of having 6 coyote dogs. It sure is nice having depth in the box. Going for 100 next year. Changed my name from shotcoy to ythoover.

That is good to see that many yotes out of commission.
