Hunted all day yesterday. What a beautiful day. Just chilly enough in the morning to bundle up and NO WIND. Sun was shining bright. Very peaceful. No deer in sight. Afternoon comes and I decide to take a alternate route to stand 3 on my property. Along the way I look down and I find this. Its the head of a 4 pointer I shot during Archery season. He had come in under my stand right near dark. He was facing somewhat forward to me and I thought I had it sunk deep enough but Just as I released he turned just slightly and my arrow went right behind his heart passing his lungs and through his guts. Knowing good and well what my shot was and having the knowlege not to go after him right away I backed out and waited till next morning to track him. I found blood and found several spots where he laid down. Tracked and tracked till the blood ran out then ran circles around that area and opened those circles up until I exhausted every possibly. Checked every creek and signs of water. NO sign of him. So no deer yesterday afternoon. But this seems sort of like a consolation prize.

We can't keep skulls with horns/antlers here in New Mexico. They belong to the state.
