I picked up one of the Springfield Armory GI model 1911A1 pistols the other day and it is very nice quality, very accurate, and the price is right. Now, it isn't exactly the smallest, most "carry friendly" pistol out there, but for the money, it is a lot of pistol. Get on GunsAmerica and take a look at one and make note of the price compared to a lot of the other 1911's out there. KerryB

any special reason for a 45 ACP? i see some nice small revolvers. my Friends has one in a TAURUS titanium hammerless i think and he likes it cause you can put in a pocket and its not noticeable and it wont pull your pants down ;D.

SIG 220 is my favorite. I was raised on 1911s but the 220 is far better for carry if your a 45ACP fan. You can pick up the factory recons very cheap. The only drawback is you do not want to use super hot loads if you have a aluminum frame. I f you want to shoot those go with a SS frame.

I've been dying to get one of the little S&W Airlight revolvers with the scandium frame and titanium cylinder. My brother-in-law has one that i got to shoot last fall and i've been drooling ever since. Man are they light............but expensive!

I am a fan of taurus 357 wheel gun with a shrouded hammer (works better for us fat guys when using an inside the waist ban holster). That being said, I have shot the Sigs, H&K, M&P, and XD in the 40 cal., and fell in love with the XD40 sub compact. However, I have shot the XD45 compact and really liked the way it shot to 20 yards. Both a 10 and 13 round capacity. The 10 round with the four inch barrel was very nice and printed very little. If I HAD to have a "45", it would be in an XD.

I have several other calibers, and some how got the 45 itch. I too have a friend with the S&W airlite frame - nice gun.
Im still looking around and havent settled on anything yet. With all the cold weather we've been getting lately, my thoughts have been on ice fishing rather then gun buying ;D .

I got a glock 36 that I use for a ccw.
Not as many bullets as the bigger double stacked handguns, but one in the pipe and six in the grip means someone is going to have a very bad day.

The best way to pick the hand gun for you is to try them out ,or at least handle them. The way a weapon fits you is one of the most important things and will have a lot to do with how well you shot it and how fast you acquire a target.

I know this is an old thread but if someone is interested I have a little input. I teach our county CCW classes. A question I always ask is. What is the best gun to have in a gun fight? I get a variety of answers. My answer is the one you have with you. A .22 in your pocket that nobody knows about is worth more than the .45 at home because it was to large to conceal. I don't recommend a .22 or anything smaller than a 380 but I do carry a .32 from time to time.
