Opening day of rifle season here in the morning,,, pack is packed, gun is packed, ready to roll at 3:30 am, by 6am I'll be at 4,000 feet after a long steep climb. Have some good sign found including a 4x8 foot scrape that reeks of deer pee,, and several thumb sized trees that have been horned and twisted off 15 inches above the ground,,, hope to see him in the morning! Do not plan on seeing any other hunters as this is wayyy up there, offered the kids the option of coming but they both declined as they have been in there before on an overnight trip last summer. Will get some hunting in with them over Thanksgiving break.

Well it did not go that well for me, my uncle and I hiked way up and back and about 10am while I was watching 6 does feed around the Mnt. I heard him shoot about a half mile away, He got a nice 7 point with no brow tines that was a solid 3.5 year old deer, on the way over to help him drag it up out of the valley he was in I had a tree limb poke me in the right eye, ouch. Tore the surface of the eye and I was in the Eye Dr.s office asap after the hour walk/drag out and the hour drive to the office, Cornea specialist had to cut a loose corner off of the tear and I now have a “Band-Aid” contact in that eye, feels much better today, will go back to him Wednesday for a follow up. My left eye has a reoccurring problem and the right one always has been the good eye,,, hope it stays that way. Anyway the uncle got the nice buck in the area, I did see a small spike right after I hurt my eye but did not even think of shooting as I had enough to deal with,,,, Jacks deer was a really nice dark brown color but I was so disstracted I didn't take any photo's.

Hang in there and listen to the docs Posey. Your stories make us realize that hunting deer/pigs/etc can be an incredibly physical endeavor in some areas. Give the eye top priority and we look forward to your next update.

Thanks all, they eye is still really red and bloodshot, all the kids here at school are fascinated, guess I am a public service safety announcement right now for the K-5 crowd. Will see what the Dr says today.

Well I got a "better" bill of health from the Doc today but not a clean bill of health,,, bottom line I can get back to hunting but have to use lots of eye drops and must wear some form of safety glasses,,, already have a set that I already wear walking in and out in the dark but will now wear all the time.... Eye still hurts but is well on the mend. Thanks for all the well wishes!

Dang, that sucks! At least the cornea heals quickly. I have scratched mine a few times in the past. Super uncomfortable, but like I mentioned, they heal quickly. You will be back out in no time chasing the buck.

If I can keep the wife from killing me during deer season then a poke in the eye isn't to bad!
I don't like to watch sports, don't even play any anymore, but the marriage is interupted for deer season every year.

Lucky for me, my wife came from a hunting family, so this is just the same old routine for her. My mother in law calls it "hunting divorce". Now that we have a little boy, it gives them more time to spend together when I'm hunting. Lucky me!
