Ml season opened in Tn this weekend. We hunted the first two days being selective hoping to get a shot at this massIve 8 pointer that has been outside bow range all season long. We passed on several mid size deer. Sunday night we learn that the trophy class 8 pointer was killed Sat morning early AM on a neiboring farm.
So game on today. First deer under the stand got it and this little 4 pointer was it.
Gonna be some good freezer meat.
Ml was my updated 700 ML HS pro stocked Hunter Modified Bolt, with Jewell Trigger. Load was 250 XTP and MMP short black Sabot. Nikon 4x Momarch scope Brownells Shooting sling.

Victim number 3 this week. Shot was taken at 147 yards. Due to contrary reporting 250 gr xtp do NOT explode on the surface or fail to penetrate.  |

I always had good luck with xtp .. I shoot sst now. But 240 xtp performed well for me.. Nice deer

congratz on the 2 deer. if you are using BP or subs, the XTPs will perform great. its when you get them too fast they explode in my experiance. i shoot a 44 mag rifle with 200 grn XTPs going 1950 fps 20 feet from the muzzle and have gotten several deer with great performance.

Thanks man. Killed 5 deer in 4 days with this ml during ML week. I gave 4 deer away to people that have been bugging me about venison. I person is unable to hunt to due physical problems but loves the meat. The others are non hunters.
I'm shooting A load that is getting me 1950 fps with this ML.
My Savage Ml I shoot 2200 fps and have never had the XTP Explode of fail to penetrate. I'm puzzled as to what velocity it takes to have them explode on impact.

I have never had one explode on impact but have had many come unglued and leave shrapnel in its path and at slower velocities not exit. When I switched to 300 grainers the exit problem was resolved.When they are kept within the their design parameters they perform well.
