We took the Aqua Cow , our new Mad Max mud boat, out for a hunting trip. :gr: Good thing we reworked the trailer you can see theres not much water. We where hunting an island in the shallow lake hoping to shoot some swans. There is not much cover on the island . We made a "garage" for the boat and waited.
And after a LONG wait we had one lone swan come close enough for a reasonable shot. Even at that it was probably 60 yards.
It has a seven foot one wing span and was five foot from bill ,foot . The Duplex #2 x BB steel hit the mark, out of the 1100 winchester with a extra full, extended Hevi-shot choke. They drove pellets through the swans body , head, and broke both wings. Interesting blind .? But when the ducks and geese came in low it seemed to work and let us slip in and out with out messing with it. we did get a few ducks and a goose but the swan was the targeted game. The boat went through very shallow water, cat tails and, grass with little troubles. We did tag a few rocks with the skag but it worked like it should. :yelclap:

Crap! And LOTS of it. We grind up all our birds and turn it in to what we call duck jerky, and sausage.

Some ducks taste like crap and some aren't too bad. We used to have a great place for wood ducks, they are small but pretty good eating. Most of the diving ducks like coots and fisheaters like a merganser taste real bad but a canvasback sometimes can taste pretty good. The grain eaters like mallards and teal are the best to me but I usually just saved the breast. It seems with geese it depends if they are fresh from Canada or have been pigging out on American grain for a while. One guy told me the farther south they go the better eating they are and the ducks in Louisiana and Texas are better eating. Is Canadian food that bad?

Nebraskan Geese are called flying carp by the locals.... Never ate a carp but don't care for the geese... Zen
