Just a few pictures of the Richard's Microfit Savage ML stock I put on one of my Savages. Still trying to figure out how to post, I hope I am not upsetting anyone here.

To Tar12: The beauty of a firearm in my eyes is not in the stock, it is in the groups it shoots. In my eyes your ML is beautiful because it shoots well at long distances. Mine, at this point, with the .38 barrel can barely hit the barrel. Hopefully I will get there, the resizer and Lapua and other bullets are here.

;D To ET: If your eyes were really sharp you would "see" it has a SSS trigger on it. ;D Darn forgot to put on my x-ray glass. ;D Or maybe that sewing kit nearby was distracting me by cluttering my thoughts. ;D For what it's worth I still have the original trigger on mine that is now nicely set and left it alone. Took a while to get it there thou. Was looking at the Basix Trigger for a while but then got into other modfications and never retraced my steps. Maybe one day I might want to change and wonder what your opinion on the SSS trigger is? Ed

;DMy wife said I should have removed her sewing basket when I took the picture, I didn't think our group would look beyond the Savage in the foreground. I wanted to clear that up, it is not my possibles bag that I haul to the range. ;D

Think nothing of it jims. I can remember Ed posting pictures of his bathroom renovations with a turtle on the toilet tank. Good think Chuck isn't up there to shoot it . Nice looking stock!

8-)I love the looks of the classic flat top receiver. If I could only have one 10ML it would be my flat top. I put a lot of rounds down that pipe in fact so much the barrel is due for refit.

OK, Jims, you are upsetting ME. Big time. And when ole Buckrub gets upset, it ain't pretty.
I want you to step outside and Wilmsmeyer will beat you senseless.
Wait. What? What's that? OK, OK, geez. What a killjoy. Won't even fight for me.
I guess you can keep it. But only cause I don't know where you stays!!
P.S. (Richard, are you listening?) I have a standing offer of twelve dollars and nineteen cents to anyone who will take a Richards stock that I buy and finish it totally so my gun is a drop in..........
P.S.S. Man, I envy folks that a) know how and b) have time and c) are good at.....doing this kind of work. What a joy it must be to take this to the woods and shoot it, knowing YOU did it. And folks....it is NOT too pretty to hunt with. Life's too short to dance with ugly wimmin.......

The stock used to house the factory Savage barrel. It had the QLA in the barrel from the factory. It was a pretty early serial number, first or second year I think. For those not familar with the QLA it had the last half inch of the rifling removed so it is easier to start a load, kind of like a false muzzle. The Savage barrel shot extremely well after I firelapped it, actually pretty good before that. The Savage barrel would shoot consistently around 1MOA but I only tested at 100 yards as I do not get many shots beyond that. Generally the first two would touch, then the rapid third shot would be off a little. I will try to relook at the Microfit site to recall what stock it was, their stocks are rough. I have/had at least six. I think with sanding and prep and glass bedding I had something like 25 hours in it but I enjoy that so that was not a big issue. The barrel never wandered but the barrel channel if open quite a bit. Hope that helps. I am getting my daugters Savage ready, I bought a used Stainless barrel, actually two. If that does not shoot I will put my good barrel on it or put the SMI back on it.

it is not my possibles bag that I haul to the range. ;D No one here would even consider it that. It's nowhere near big enough to haul the gear needed for a day at the range. Good looking rifle DC

;D ;D I have been trying to think of an explanation for the purple sewing basket in the background. Richard just supplied it to me in another thread, I was using my wife's sewing needles as a guage to check ventliner erosion. It is as good an explanation as any.

JimS, Actually I was referring to the rifle, but now that I look back, that purple/white wicker range bag is a true thing of beauty. Do you have to carry it with a real limp-wristed gait when you go to the range? I just don't understand all these beautiful rifles I see guys posting here. First Jims then 1shot. Mine is about as pretty as a mud fence, but that's all right with me cause its a real shooter. An ugly gun that shoots is a still a thing of beauty in my eyes. An ugly gun that won't shoot, why heck that is like a pregnant prostitute. Sort of a two time loser.

To 1shot1kill: For an AA that is exceptional, I thought it would grade higher. Nice work.

to chuck41: A rifle is only as good as it shoots, therein lies the true beauty. You are correct there.

jims, that is one of the good things I like about Richards, that as a minimum, you will always get the grade you order. In the dozens of stocks I have gotten from Richards over the years, if I ordered a single A or a double A fancey, that is what I got or better. I've gotten a couple of AA's that appear more like exhibition grade, than AA grade.
Also the newer Richards stocks are much smoother and refined on the exterior of the stock than they old shaped with a chainsaw stocks of just 2-3 years ago. I hear that Richards was bought purchased by a new owner about 2 years ago and the quality has picked up noticeably in the inletting and exterior of the stocks. They still require alot of sanding and inletting, but are much better than they used to be.
