For the folks that don't already know Federal has decided to drop the Barnes Tipped Expander from their sabot slug line and instead have replaced it with a slug made by them called the Trophy Copper, this is apparently a continuation of their new rifle bullet line also deemed the trophy copper. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a few boxes last weekend and do some test shooting to see how well they grouped from my 1983 Ithaca DS-I. For the record the Barnes Tipped Expanders never shot well for me. I accidently bought the 3" shells not the 2 3/4" shells which generally group better for me but with all sales final I shot away. Box specs 12 ga. 3" 300 gr. 2000 FPS, all three three shot groups were right around the 2 1/2" mark, all groups were shot off a bech at 100 yd. target with a 4X scope. I'm going to get some 2 3/4" shells and see if the groups tighten up a bit. My local Bass Pro had the shells for $13.49 a box which I feel is a reasonable price.

If you think $2.70 a shot is bad go pick up a box of Remington Core-Lokts at 17.97 to 22.99 a box depending on where you buy them.

Thanks for the heads up on FED dropping the Barnes Expanders. My slug guns shoot consistant 1.5" groups W/them. Know a place where they are 9.99 a box headed there now.
