The fishhawk can build a fine muzzleloader. I honestly never expected work like this, I was blown away when I got each of them back. If my wife finds out about him I may have to move to Ohio. ;D

Nice looking outfit.
I dont want to hijack your post and I mean no disrespect but why do guys put such large bolt handles on single shot rifles? Is just for cosmetics? Or does the handle make it easier for you to unlatch the bolt? Mike

Mike Mike, with the large eyepieces that the Minox and Zeiss scopes have the tactical bolt provides clearance that the stock knob does not have. With the Minox, I smash my thumb with the stock bolt, Badger knob clears my hand completely. The Leupold does not have as much of an issue. With a high or maybe even a medium set of rings and mounts it may be different, but I mount my scopes as low as possible to keep a proper cheek weld on these sporter stocks. Don

Funny you mention that Mike as this build has a normal Remington bolt handle...............just that it has been skeletonized? The longer bolt handles are obviously for a little more leverage in extracting cartridges and primers. Most all custom actions come with them now as standard equipment. That is a nice touch to the handle Fishawk! Richard

That is a nice touch to the handle Fishawk! Richard Correct the bolt handle is stock but the knob is almost an inch longer which gets my fingers and the knob itself above the eyepiece. When I put a stock knobbed bolt in the HS stocked rifle and lift the bolt it actually scrapes the eyepiece on the Minox with this low mount. The knob was added for a reason, although it may add to the looks of the rifle for some. Function over form.

Dang if that ain't got me thinking about tricking out one of my "factory" 700's and sticking with the BH209. I picked up another one today, so I'm sitting on 3 of them right now, all blued. I had no plans for them but I may do one of these, don't really need another smokeless. By the way, they both look fine, I like em.

Howa, take one of those blued actions and have it BlackIced; then screw a stainless barrel on it with a Callahan lugg. Bed it in a sharp stock. I'm thinking of doing one with blued action and stainless barrel, they look nice.

One of my "put together" MLIIs is black, blue and SS over SS. Its a black stock, blue action, SS barrel and SS scope in blue bases and rings. What the guys call it would make you think they are intolerant rednecks. LOL, shoots those BCR and .458 in 300 gr at moa or less. Looks good to me. Both of fishhawks here look good too. 10

Got it to the 10th of an ounce with postal scales. These mounts are DNZ, very light but very strong IMO. If you are going with the steel rings and mounts used alot by the members here and a larger scope you can easily add 1 to 2 pounds. Don

Nice looking rifles! Let me throw something out here about the tactical bolt knobs. I have ran into shooting finger clearance problems with tactical knobs when wearing gloves while hunting in cold weather. Look at the two rifles in the photos and you will see the difference in room available to insert your finger into the trigger guard. The other problem I have encountered is with the longer bolt knob comes increased chances of "snagging" the bolt when going through the brush. This can even cause the bolt to come completely open. A minor drawback is when shouldering the rifle onto the left side, the long bolt knob can poke into your side. Yes they look cool and create more leverage, but at a cost. I recently removed one from my hunting rifle for all of the reasons above. Now if all of your hunting is from a warm high rise blind ..................

I should probably stop looking at all these rifles, or that "almost new" Rem700mz in my safe will need an upgrade!

Haven't had a problem with gloves or finger/ knuckle smash. Carried it through thick stuff, but if I'm walking through thick places it is usually not on my shoulder anyway. Carried it lefty to rest the right shoulder, doesn't poke me in the ribs.
I actually had it put on to add clearance for the European style ocular on the scope used. Never had a problem with it, but can see your concerns.

Customer supplied bolt knob. He likes it just fine. I came here to learn and to share knowledge. Certainly not finding fault with the rifles, merely pointing out that there can be some downside to tactical bolt knobs on hunting rifles. They most certainly look great and satisfy the owner's needs. I was merely stating my dissatisfaction with tactical bolt knobs on hunting rifles in order for others to make up their own mind regarding their usefulness before shelling out the $$.
