Some guys like to have quick release scope mounts so they can have an extra scope ready. I pefer having an extra gun ready ;D. I finally got it all together and had nothing left to do but shoot it. I went with the Pacnor Sendero contour. This is a lot heavier than the factory contour but lighter than the 7 contour like the Savage 10 ML II has. Had the factory stock pillared and the mag well filled before the barrel got here, bedded it last week and let it cure this week. Got lots of help from board members but I'll get into those details in the build section when I get some camera batteries. It basically looks like a factory 700 ML on steriods and it weighs in at 9+ pounds and feels a whole lot more solid with all the bedding and the heavier barrel. The wind was blowing like crazy but I figured I needed to at least function test it. Lined the scope up with a couple of 200gr XTPs at 25 yards and moved to 100 yards to test the 195 BXs. I chose 63 gr of H4198 because that's my load for my .45 Savage Pacnor. All the details are on the target. It really seemed to settle in for shots 3,4 and 5 which formed a tidy 0.46" 3 shot group. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with the first outing. I had to shoot it 5 times for Richard's sake and I'm sure glad I did ;D.

Thanks guys. It is a 22 twist, 25" barrel. I didn't knurl these bullets. That's not to say I might not try it some time. I've got batteries ordered for the camera so I'll post a picture of it when they get here. Fortunately our limit for deer is more than one so I should be able to hunt with the Savage and the Remington. I hope I answered everybody's questions .

You answered mine, that was a good showing with the 195 "out of the box" . I was starting to get concerned of how finicky they can be. Your gun likes them that way no doubt, good for you. Thanks and good luck with both of them, thats what all these guns are built for...............Deer killing..........................!!!!!!!

Very, very nice shooting, I reading an article about a Montana Rifle, a great looking rifle, I think its costs 2900. they called it a very accurate shooter, three shots into 1.66, now thats fine accuracy, in a hunting rifle and it a beautfull rifle, but my RB special, may just out shoot it, with an old man, shooting, I'm sure you young folks, could make it look like the Montana was throwing rocks, not bullets. [young as in 64 or under]

Thanks Richard and Bigmoose. That sabotless stuff folks are posting is looking mighty fine too. Maybe someday I'll give that a whirl. These guns are so much better than the shotguns I formerly used to hunt deer in my area, I wish I had them years ago.

Finally got some camera batteries and here are a couple of pictures to show the Varminter Sendero contour from Pacnor. Here's a link to the specs: www.pac-nor.com/contours/

DB, I really like the looks of that barrel contour. It's perfect-- AND proportional. Hopefully it cuts down on the carry weight some. The couple Sendero/Varmint CF's that my son and I own seem to be perfectly balanced once they are scoped. If I do a build that's my first choice for a barrel contour. Good Luck with your wring-out!

I like the profile too! Definitely makes a lot of sense. Some of the shipment I'm getting in December will be this contour. I've got a fluted one coming for my own personal use!

Is the 9 pounds plus weight with the scope on board?

Good luck with yours Luke. Is the 9 pounds plus weight with the scope on board? Yes, that's total weight of everything.

Nice Rig for a backup if not your #1 gun. I noticed your recoil lug looked a little different, what's up there..? Greenhorn

Very nice again, I greatly admire you folks that build your own rifles, it must be very satisfying.
I know catching a tarpon, on a fly you made, make it a whole lot sweeter.
