Yesterday, I put together a post on the days shooting complete with the usual photos and when I posted it?? It must not have gone thru? Being in a rush as company was coming, I turned off the computer!!!!
So here goes again! As Herman stated, a good day of shooting with good friends. (I will try to get some pictures of the days shooting on another thread)
All .45 cal loads and NO blown sabots!
First target...............Don't wast your time with Reniers, tan mmp's and Re-7
Target #2---Here was a good surprise: 2943 fps from a 23" barrel and a single powder with exceptional accuracy: Shots 2,3,4 and 5 in .479" With the first shot causing it to go 1.2"!
Targets 3 & 4 are self explanatory.
Target #5 was shot sabot less with the 200 Hor. FTX which I used my "new" knurler. However, I got them too fat and had to hammer them down the bore. This situation is going to be rectified with the help of "AL" - Thanks ! Note: I used some Rem oil on one bullet and it greatly helped get the bullet down the bore, but lost a lot of velocity.
Target 6 utilized the same FTX with my old "file" knurling and shot fairly decent.
All the above were shot at 100 yards.
Moving out to 200 yards the results had some potential but not the best.
On target #7 my vertical dispersion was under an inch. A little breeze could have caused the horizontal to open.
#8 was again another duplex, but almost 100 fps slower. Note that on shot #5, I indicated a mixed powder charge: I forgot to seat the bullet after using my short starter. This has happened once or twice before with no fatal results. The powder just does not ignite. I think it is because the bullet is too close to the muzzle. The primer went off but no BANG! So, I reseated the bullet and the resulting velocity was some 200 fps slower and the shot left the group.
All in all, there was useful information gained today.
Plus................after shooting, Herman, Bill and I visited a local gun shop that is only 5 mi. from our range (although the opposite direction from home) and found a "honey hole" for V V powder
There on his very top shelf, covered with over ten years of dust was the old benchrest powder (prior to N-133) V V N-130! And, nine 2 lb. bottles at the OLD 1990's price price When I asked the owner if that was the price? He said Yup! And there was also a 2 pounder of N-110! Needless to say, I walked out with eight pounds of N-130 and 2 lbs. of N-110. Herman scoffed up 6 lbs. (and yes, there are still two more jugs on the shelf) Apparently when N-133 hit the scene, the 130 just died there. Nice and warm on Larry's (Bullseye sporting goods) shelf.
