My hunting shack was once a snack shack where hamburgers, hotdogs, popcorn and other goodies were sold at gatherings like fairs. It is surrounded by large sliding glass windows and is about eight feet wide and about twenty feet long. The floor is indoor/outdoor carpet and there is a shelf that is plenty large enough to take a nap on. The window has shades that can be pulled down making the inside dark so animals can't see through. Inside are a couple of swivel office chairs and some stools. Here is my plan. I am going to hire someone to give the inside a good cleaning, Clean the windows until they are perfectly clear, replace any shades that needs replacing with dark colored shades, sweep the carpet and all clean. I then plan to sit and enjoy some quality time watching the feeder that holds five hundred pounds of corn or chops. May zap a few squirrels and take a good deer for jerky. I will probably have my crossbow, a pellet rifle and my .243 there during normal hunting. A shotgun during turkey season. I am walking several times across the room daily trying to build my leg muscles up. When it is raining or snowing I love being there in the warm shack watching wildlife when they have no Idea that a human is within a mile of them. I have had flocks of turkeys scratching and chattering just feet from my position. Often bear come to bother everything else and deer are always seen if the bear isn't around. Life is great for me there. Ben

Sounds like a great place and big enough for a bunch. I built a large treestand so I could take kids up there with me. What kind of crossbow do you have Ben? Rusty

That does sound nice. I am in the process of building myself a 6x8 insulated building so I can take up to 2 of my 3 girls at a time.

My bow is a Horton Dakota that is scoped. I usually move the feeder to 25 yards so making good hits is easy. I usually have the bow sitting in a rangemaster shooting rest. From there I can keep the bolts in a two inch circle. Have taken a few deer, several turkey, a raccoon and some squirrel with the bow. I also like my .17 HMR sitting nearby.

now is a good time to do the cleaning. if you need to use any strong smelling chemicals it will give it time to air out before season.

There is something about having a haven in the wild to enjoy the natural surroundings. It can either provide a reclusive time or time-shared with friends. I too enjoy such moments when the hustle and bustle of life becomes demanding or just tired of the environment society forces us to live. There’s something special about such a location that brings back the feeling of peace or even tranquility at times.
Hope you have many more such moments in your special shack.

My hunting buddy can't climb into a regular stand and has a shack a bit like that. It is about 5'x10' and we call it his "doll house". It is on a platform about 8' off the ground with stairs going up to it. Unfortunately the windows are lined up so the deer can see all the way through it. You are silhouetted with the light from the far side and the slightest movement tends to spook them.
Unfortunately the sides are rotting off of it so it is in need of major repair. He keeps putting it off so I don't know if it will get fixed this year or not. Its only about 100 yds from the camp so it is extremely popular with visitors that end up using it without permission and shooting all the deer in that area and leaving him nothing to see. He needs to fix it an put a lock on the door.
